Act fast, it’s coming up May 17th.
The Summit came and went. And boy, did we have a good time!
Doug Snyder did a fantastic review of the field of couple therapy. EFT stands prime, and is making a big impact. He delighted us with his calm and warm presence and his words of encouragement on the closing panel. He challenged us to each put up a handout at our local grocery store with tips on it to help couples, not as a marketing strategy but as a way to support couples and families to be strong and happy.
Barry McCarthy intrigued us with some of the most counter intuitive statistics we’ve heard in a long time. For instance, who, in a heterosexual relationship, controls if sex stops, the man, the woman of the couple? The answer is the man. He explained why and then taught us about sexual styles and how to help clients with this ‘content’ topic when we get to stage 3. He didn’t really know stage 3 is when we handle content topics and direct problem solving but that’s okay, we didn’t expect him too. He did a wonderful job emphasizing the need to discuss the sexual relationship directly.
Jim Coan won everyone’s heart with his corky sense of humor, his ability to laugh at himself and make very technical and complex neuro-processes accessible to even the most unmathmatical brains. He didn’t hold back on displaying scattergrams and somehow even they were interesting. Dr. Coan helped us understand why attachment is so important – and boy is it ever.
Sue Johnson reviewed the mountains she has climbed to get EFT to the top. She identified herself as an attachment theorist and shared her passion for developing security in relationships. We all, as humans, need to be able to reach for comfort and soothing in the arms of another.
